The estate’s voluminous spaces and towering ceilings present an ensemble of ten bedrooms, including 2 master suites, and thirteen and a half bathrooms, 5 fireplaces, surrounding terraces and decks leading to a majestic 20x75 foot swimming pool with a separate cabana and bath, as well as a private dock. Separate staff quarters and a 3-car garage complete the complex, all affording comfort without relinquishing style.

Deeply ingrained with the Erteguns’ cosmopolitan heritage and exquisite taste, the architectural narrative of the estate finds reflection in Mica Ertegun’s contemplations, as shared in “Beach Houses” by Michael Webb: “The melancholy beauty of the site reminded me of the Russia of Chekhov and Pushkin... It was an ideal choice for, in the early nineteenth century, neoclassicism was the fashionable style for the newly independent United States as well as czarist Russia.” This insight informed their selection of Robertson, who designed a home that stands as a monument to timeless allure and diverse modes of existence.

The residence features a cleverly conceived H-shaped plan, integrating an extended service wing and pool court that harmonize with the landscape. The design includes a flight of broad steps leading to a majestic great room at the crossbar of the “H.” This elevation also facilitates a raised, covered deck at the rear, enhancing the dwelling’s connectivity with the environment. To accommodate large gatherings while providing a cozy refuge for its occupants, a winter garden room was ingeniously placed adjacent to the great room.

At its core, the Ertegun Residence showcases a masterclass in interior design and craftsmanship, with each space epitomizing luxury and warmth. The dramatic double-cube great room, with its soaring pyramidal vault and roof lantern, is bathed in natural light. Sandstone pavers arranged in a crosshatched pattern enrich the room’s texture, while walls coated with a unique blend of marble dust and pigment radiate a warm glow. An eighteenth-century English partners desk and chairs, arranged in the center of the great room, separate the conversation areas, each with a separate fireplace with intricately carved mantels. French windows towering 12 feet offer tranquil views to the terrace and the sea beyond, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor spaces.
