In the picturesque landscape of Martis Camp, Dennis Zirbel Architect has created a custom residence that transcends the typical “home on a hill” trope. This 6699-square-foot architectural marvel is strategically perched on a down-sloping site, maximizing its connection to the surrounding golf course while maintaining privacy from neighbors. Floor-to-ceiling windows throughout capture panoramic vistas of the rolling fairways and distant mountain peaks, creating a seamless connection with the natural surroundings.

Leveraging the existing topography, the architects designed a multi-level living experience that positions the residence on the flattest portion of the site. This deliberate approach not only enhances outdoor spaces but also ensures unobstructed views from virtually every room. The integration of expansive outdoor patios and balconies fosters a true connection with the environment, allowing for an immersive outdoor living experience.

From the moment you approach the towering 10-foot pivot door crafted from artistic oak and glass, the residence exudes a sense of awe. Framed by a mosaic of hot-rolled steel, the entryway reveals a stunning waterfall cable staircase, hinting at the modern design language that awaits within.

The interior is a symphony of light, space, and meticulously chosen materials. The great room, bathed in natural light streaming through expansive Weiland doors and windows, offers gallery-like views of the 6th green. Adjacent to the great room, the kitchen features a sleek travertine waterfall island, while the dining room integrates a stunning display for the homeowner’s wine collection.

Comfort and luxury coexist throughout the residence. Soaring ceilings finished in western red cedar contrast beautifully with the wide-plank French white oak flooring and etched basalt tile accents. The use of warm rift white oak for walls, doors, and cabinetry fosters a sense of organic elegance, creating a harmonious blend of comfort and sophistication.

Dual master suites with fireplaces, expansive windows, custom walk-in closets, and private outdoor spaces offer a sanctuary for rest and rejuvenation. The upper level features four guest rooms, including a playful bunk room designed for children, providing ample accommodation for family and friends. A recreation room with a wet bar and expansive deck at the top of the staircase amplifies the home’s entertainment potential.

This exceptional residence prioritizes sustainability alongside aesthetics. High R-value sprayed-in insulation, LowE-366 glazing, and Energy Star appliances ensure energy efficiency. The use of engineered lumber products and native plantings further minimizes environmental impact, aligning with the architects’ commitment to sustainable design.

The unique beauty of this home lies in its ability to be both commanding and serene. It exemplifies mountain contemporary architecture through a seamless blend of sloped and flat roofs, expansive glazing, and contemporary detailing. The creative solutions employed in its design, coupled with its unique setting, elevate this custom residence to a class of its own within the Martis Camp community.
