Inspired by the multicultural district of Trinquetaille, where Christian Lacroix spent his formative years, the Christian Lacroix Maison’s SS24 collection, “Pêle-Mêle,” features a patchwork design that mimics the traditional boutis, a type of Provençal quilted fabric. Adorned with multiple suns, this design is rendered in both cotton velour and terracotta-hued wallpaper, capturing the warmth and vibrancy of the region. The joyful motif of “Cotillons” transports us to neighborhood festivals, with prints reminiscent of harlequin-clad acrobats, akin to those that inspired Picasso and Lucien Clergue. This motif is available on rustic cotton canvas, infusing interiors with a playful yet refined energy.
Drawing from the serene yet dramatic Arles countryside, “Avant le Mistral” features a broad landscape where a storm looms over blooming almond trees. This design, rich in natural beauty and tension, brings a dynamic and evocative element to home décor. Meanwhile, “En allant aux Baux” unfurls a 17th-century map of the Arles region, embroidered onto a grand linen panel. It is also offered as a natural grass cloth wallcovering, merging historical reverence with tactile luxury.
Inspired by the sparkling freshwater streams known as “Roubine,” another design employs woven velvet with silky, winding graphic lines, embodying the flow and fluidity of these natural features. “Reflet sur le Rhône” captures the reflective beauty of the Rhône River with water-colored drawings available as linen fabric and wallpaper, bringing a serene, aqueous tranquility to interiors.
Depicting the vibrant marsh irises of the Rhône, the design of “Iris des Marais” is showcased on both black cotton sateen and rustic white cotton canvas. The rich polychromy of the flowers adds a bold, naturalistic touch to any space. Inspired by Van Gogh’s iconic sunflowers, “Soleils” celebrates the artist’s tribute to friendship with a gleaming Jacquard fabric that dazzles from both front and back, bringing warmth and a touch of artistic history to home interiors.
“Hortus” draws inspiration from the ancient past of Arles, presenting an extravaganza of fruit and flowers that harks back to Roman banquets. Printed on linen fabric and panoramic wallpaper, this design offers a lush, historical opulence. Concluding the collection is “SurréArles’isme,” a riotous fresco of wild and imaginary flowers. This piece pays homage to the town’s ever-evolving artistic spirit, constantly attracting new talent while remaining rooted in its rich heritage.
The Christian Lacroix SS24 Pêle-Mêle collection is more than a series of interior design pieces; it is a tribute to the timeless elegance and dynamic history of Arles. Each design invites homeowners to immerse themselves in the cultural and natural beauty that has long inspired artists and creators, making it a perfect addition to any luxurious living space.
