Born in France in 1962 and raised in Switzerland, Sacha Walckhoff is a luminary in the world of design, art, and decoration. As the creative director of Christian Lacroix Maison, he has shaped the home collections since 2010, but his influence reaches far beyond this prestigious role. Walckhoff’s personal design philosophy is vividly expressed in his Parisian apartment, a vibrant, eclectic space he refers to as a “Cabinet d’amateurs,” where his deep passion for art and design takes center stage.

After studying at the Barcelona Arts and Fashion Techniques School, Walckhoff worked with several iconic Parisian fashion houses, including Jean Rémy Daumas, Dorothée Bis, and Michel Klein. His pivotal career moment came in 1992 when he met Christian Lacroix, sparking a collaboration that spanned 17 years. Initially overseeing Lacroix’s ready-to-wear lines, Walckhoff ascended to Studio Director in 1996 and became Lacroix’s right-hand man by 2002. Following Lacroix’s departure from the fashion house in 2009, Walckhoff was appointed Creative Director, a position he holds to this day.

Walckhoff’s creative range extends beyond his Lacroix work, as seen in his personal design projects, which reflect his bold, eclectic vision. His debut collection, Minotaures, comprised hand-painted porcelain pieces in collaboration with Vista Alegre. His Fur Play furniture line, which juxtaposes steel with astrakhan, exemplifies his daring approach to design. These projects, showcased at prestigious fairs like the London and Paris PADs and New York’s Collective Design Fair, reveal Walckhoff’s masterful fusion of fashion and interior design.

His Parisian apartment is the ultimate reflection of his artistic soul. Located in a historic 19th-century building, the 135-square-meter space is a seamless blend of modern design and antique architecture. Each object within—whether furniture, artwork, or textiles—transcends mere decoration, serving as an integral part of the whole. Walckhoff’s curated collection features collaborations with designers and artists he has worked with over his career. Iconic pieces from Christian Lacroix’s home décor collections coexist with contemporary art, creating an interplay between tradition and innovation.

Color and pattern are central to the apartment’s visual impact. The walls boast Lacroix’s bold wallpapers, while the furniture is adorned with geometric chevrons and floral motifs—hallmarks of Lacroix’s artistry. The living room, a centerpiece of the home, exemplifies Walckhoff’s talent for blending eras, where vintage furnishings coexist with modern pieces in a harmonious dialogue between the past and present.

For Walckhoff, living with art is a deeply ingrained philosophy. His apartment is both a personal sanctuary and a creative laboratory, designed to inspire. It is a space where new ideas for Lacroix collections are born and where clients are welcomed into his world of artistic exploration. Every corner of the home offers insight into his creative process, making it not just a residence but a living expression of his identity as both an artist and designer.
