ARTS & COLLECTIBLES
THE PRECISION
OF SPACE
Gerold Miller’s exhibition at Galerie Forsblom turns minimalism into a high-stakes game of perception, where space, time, and the viewer all share top billing.
Galerie Forsblom, a cornerstone of the Nordic art scene, continues its legacy of showcasing groundbreaking contemporary art with its upcoming exhibition of German sculptor Gerold Miller. Running from January 17 to February 16, 2025, this exhibition marks Miller’s first foray into Finland, bringing his signature geometric sculptures and wall reliefs to Helsinki. Known for pushing the boundaries of minimalism, Miller’s work engages the viewer in a transformative dialogue between space, form, and perception.
Miller’s art is a masterclass in precision and simplicity. Using industrial materials like aluminum and lacquer, he constructs works that transcend traditional categories of painting and sculpture. His creations thrive in the liminal space where the viewer becomes an integral part of the artwork. Through meticulously clean lines and an interplay of stagnancy and movement, Miller’s pieces challenge perceptions of reality. His wall reliefs and sculptures echo the viewer’s position in the room, merging simulated and real spaces into a cohesive visual and experiential narrative.
This exhibition also pays homage to Miller’s illustrious career, which spans decades and continents. A graduate of the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design, Miller’s work is featured in prestigious institutions such as the Nationalgalerie in Berlin, the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark, and the Fondation Cartier in Paris. His art has captured the attention of private collectors and public audiences alike, with installations housed in renowned museums across the globe.
At Galerie Forsblom, Miller’s works invite the Finnish audience to reconsider the fluid boundaries of art, where sculpture and viewer, object and subject, stand in constant interaction. In this evolving dialogue, Miller offers a reminder: art is not only to be observed but experienced—a living, shifting interplay of presence and perspective.
